Where do I find inspiration?
Everywhere.
Seattle Aquarium
volunteer diver
As a volunteer Aquarium diver, I share my unbridled enthusiasm and stories of our underwater neighbors and talk about conservation and ocean acidification with Aquarium visitors using state-of-the-art underwater communication equipment. All the while, broadcast feeding the voracious salmon and hand-feeding the much more polite territorial predators. Visit me in the Underwater Dome and bring your questions! A journey below the Salish Sea featuring uniquely Northwest characters! Namely, the giant Pacific octopus, Puget Sound king crab, Puget Sound spiny lumpsucker, and a host of other characters with expanded territories. #stellersealion #harborseal #wolffish #wolfeel

Drug and alcohol-free tribal journeys
Since 1989 the drug and alcohol-free Tribal Journeys have transformed thousands of youth. It has helped them to reconnect to their culture and heritage and has strengthened their confidence as contemporary First Nation people. My first trip in 1993 was a 600-mile paddle (one way) from Indianola up through the Inside Passage and beyond to Bella Bella, BC. Since then I have paddled thousands of miles, taught hundreds of kids to carve, and provided cold water rescue training to countless youths.
They continue to teach me.

Habitat for Humanity Global Village
CONTRIBUTOR AND VOLUNTEER BUILDER
Building simple, decent, affordable housing and infrastructure for people post tsunami & post Khmer Rouge. I admit, to pay for a flight, a portion of the building materials, then do manual labor in excruciating heat and humidity, in unsanitary conditions doesn't sound like the best use of vacation time on paper, nor on screen. But I always come back, wishing I had done and could do more.
The hard working, fun loving, not always like-minded people I team up with around the globe are just a slice of the reward.

Sharing During a Pandemic
CONTRIBTOR, PURVEYOR, AND DISTRIBUTOR
While COVID-19 deaths are low here in Zambia, the side-effect of a global shutdown is starvation. A local friend and I chose a remote village at random. We consulted with the head man. In a week, he gathered the people in his community most in need, security from the men in the village, and organized a list of recipients. A few people have full bellies today and seeds to grow their future.
